[SOLVED]Question on battery size for 1st Gen 4G Nano
« on: February 26, 2007, 11:46:55 AM »
I've been searching around for information on the size of my first generation 4G nano's battery. Rockbox is giving me options between 1300 mah and 3200 mah.
I found some specs on apple's website and it said that my battery was 370 mah. I found another post that the best setting for rockbox with my model was 2600.
I did a search on  the forums here and came across some good information on maxing my battery life but didn't see anything on the total battery capacity.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what the best setting would be, as I'm a bit confused.

Any help that could be offered would be appreciated.

While I'm posting anyways thanks to all the devs for there work on rockbox, another example of the power of open source coding to produce a superior product.

It doesn't matter which setting you use.

No real battery calibration has been done on the iPod's to my knowledge - so the setting you choose is irrelevant.

Well then I guess I'll stop worrying about it. Thanks GodEater.

One more question, it doesn't even matter as far as displaying the proper % of my battery left, or is that done at a hardware level?

I believe all that rockbox gets from the hardware is the voltage of the battery.

It also has an array of voltages when the battery is at 0%, 10% and so on upto 100%.
To work out the percentage it uses those values to interpolate the percentage for the current battery voltage. The capacity setting of the battery has no effect on these values.

Currently the nano uses the same voltage array as the iriver H series which isn't quite correct. You might have noticed the battery never makes it to 100% even when fully charged.

I'd guess to find the best capacity setting you could charge the player then start using it and time how long it takes to go flat. Then recharge it and play with the capacity until the estimated time matches your measured time.
