Not to be pedantic, but...
"GB" is the abbreviation for Gigabyte
"Gb" is the abbreviation for Gigabit
I'm not sure what "gb" means..

A good point, but as Llorean has currently written that section of the posting guidelines, they are not case sensitive. They only require making a distinction between "generation" and "gigabyte." For the purposes of the forum, I'm not sure that any further distinction is necessary.
