Problem with themes and emulator
« on: February 24, 2007, 09:09:41 AM »
Im trying to understand every thing about RockBox so I have many quastions and many things that I dont understand ???

First is the problem with the emulator, I didnt understand nothing from the manual about how to use it and what exactly it does.

The socond problem is with the themes, I like the iCatcher & Uni Catcher themes but the problem with them is that I dont understand where to download and install those paches that are requested in thise page: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WpsIriverH300
There is another problem with the all the themes that every thing what is writhen is writhen lower than where it's supose to be writhen and on the left side of thescreen writhen strange numbers (Things like 111|217| ar2006)

This post does not exactly belong here but anyway.

Yhe rockboy emulator emulates gamboy and gameboy color hardware, put your rom on you iriver and click it in the filebrowser to play.

Patches are not installed but applied to the source before compiling. If you do not want to compile your own rockbox, use an unofficial build with the right ones applied. The strange numbers are because that theme requires a patch that you do not have.

nls: I think he may be speaking of the UISimulator.

DaMen:  The UISim is used to simulate a particular hardware platform.  This way you don't have a specific physical platform in order to write and test a WPS or patch or some other code.  Most users only use it write and test out a WPS that they've created or to edit a WPS someone else has created.

With that, you need to have a compile to compile the UISimulator and apply patches.  I suggest you click the "wiki" link on the left hand side of this page.  From there you should see a link titled: "DocIndex"  Once there, you'll see links under "For Developers" that explain how to setup a dev environment.  You should also see links for "Working with Patches," and the UISimulator.  I personally use Cygwin.  It's much slower than some of the others, but I'm on an XP machine so I like being able to double click and the UISim launching.  You can't do this with a Linux virtual machine.

If your head is spinning, just go to the wiki link and read the documentation slowly.  It will get you started.

See section 8.3.1 and section 8.3.3 of the manual for the information on the games.

As has been previously said, you will either need to compile your own build with the patches included, or use an unofficial build with the patches in it.  This is the open source world, where patches are text files full of source code changes.  We do not (and cannot) use binary patches.

Also, read the forum guidelines.  This is the second time you have been told to. First off, explain what you are asking so we can help you.  If we have no idea what you are talking about, we can't help you at all.  Secondly, do not combine multiple questions on totally different topics in the same post.  Start individual posts in their correct sections.

OK, heres more specific question:
On that page - http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WpsIriverH300
there is "iCatcher & Uni Catcher" skin. I downloaded that skin and it works but there is a problem that all what is written is written lower then where it is supose to be, I tried to picture my H340 but all the pictures were realy bad :-\ , its like... the data about the song that is writhen on the screen is writhen on the titels like "Artist", "Album" and "The next song". On the page that I gave link for, it says that the system requires 3 paches and it gives a link for each one of them but I dont know what to do with them.

I read the manual but there are many things that I dont understand.
