Remapping buttons for games?
« on: February 22, 2007, 11:41:07 PM »
Is it possible to remap buttons for games? Id like to be able on my ipod 5g to change controls on rockboy so the games are actually functional the select button isnt half way in between play and fast forward (4:00 if it were a clock)

Is it possible?
edit*-maybe this belongs in the plugins forum.  Sorry if it does, the structure is very confusing here..

It should be under "Options" in the Rockboy menu:  http://download.rockbox.org/manual/rockbox-ipodvideo/rockbox-buildch8.html#x11-1570008.3.3

Yeah rockboy is there, you need to download a .gbc file and open it with the middle button.  I dont understand why rockboy isnt in the plugins menu, but it isnt and regardless thats how it works.

Right as you start the game it will have the options menu there for ya  ;D

Rockboy, like the mpegplayer is not a normal plugin, it is a viewer.  Neither of them is useful without a corresponding data file, thus you launch them by opening a matching file.

Let me ask another...In gameboy, simply scrolling and not clicking allows you access to the menus etc.  But in doom I need to click to turn and thats really loud in a quiet study hall (where I play  ;D)..Is there a way to have it use the scroll wheel?  Would it be feasible to do with the source code?

Using similar logic, Doom is a viewer also then.  Why does that show up in the menu?

Doom is one game that needs some files to work, hence launched from browse plugins.  Rockboy loads many different games, hence you select the game you want to play, rather than navigate to browse plugins, then launch Rockboy, then have a bigger menu including open rom, then navigate to where you have the rom, then select it.

Yes, scrolling to turn with a patch is in the tracker. I am not sure if it is still synced with the cvs though.

Well it just works in kind of a silly way if you think about it.  If any plugin needed extras they should go in /Rockbox/PluginName/ folder.  Exactly like doom works.  Then the list could simply be games or mpegs or whatever is inside that designated folder. I hate switching from database to all files just to see my 3 games inside my Roms folder.

It works that way so that you can place Roms wherever you like. The text viewer plugin, jpeg viewer plugin, chip8 viewer plugin, and a few others all work this way, very much like codecs.

Just because it doesn't make sense to you doesn't mean it doesn't make sense on an absolute scale, it just means that it isn't to your liking. Doom couldn't be made as a viewer (it was considered) because it would be very hard to pick both the IWAD and the PWADs (Game, and Addons) using the viewer method of launching, but for anything where the data is in an external file, a viewer is nicer for a lot of us (as well as keeping the plugin list from getting even more cluttered).
