Archos JukeBox Multimedia Info Requested

(1/1)

jlovda:
I have recorded church sermons for over three years with my JBR20 V2 tapping into one of the PA channels until one of the JBR input channels died.  I purchased a JBM unit on ebay to replace it.  It was a pretty good value since the previous owner put a Toshiba 60gb HD in it.  However, I did not realize that that RockBox is not supported on this model until after I received it.  The factory user interface is SOOO much more limited than I was used to.  I have several questions:
1. Chronologically, is the JBM an older or newer design than the JBR V2?
2. The tech specs are confusing for the JBM.  Is it true that you can only get USB 1.1 from the side USB mini-plug and must use a special cable that plugs into the big bottom connector to get USB 2.0?
3.  Is there a specific reason RockBox is not supported on this model?  Short life?  Low volume? Color LCD?
4. Can someone tell me if the horizontal bar "VU" meters on the JBM are log or linear?

The color LCD sucks, mainly because I'm not interested in video and you can't see anything unless the backlight is on.

Thanks for your help.

Llorean:
I can answer 3 at least: Nobody who owns one has done the work.

Rockbox doesn't pick targets and go to them as a project: The people who own the players and who happen to have the requisite skills do the work to get the software ported.

Bagder:
1. The multimedia models are newer than the "JBR".

3. No JBM owners ever showed enough interest. Dave Chapman has done some initial work on a port recently that might lead to something.
