While song is playing, another interrupts for about 2 seconds
« on: February 22, 2007, 07:01:56 PM »
When playing a song, sometimes another random song will interrupt for about 1-2 seconds then go back to the song that was playing originally. The GUI doesn't represent a change that I know of, just the output is a noticeable interruption. Any idea what is causing this?

I'm using a 4g ipod with a recent build. It's happened intermittently with many builds that I've tried in the past as well.

Thanks for any help!

I've had the same problem with some mp3s downloaded from binary newsgroups.  I don't think it's anything to do with rockbox though as the same thing happens if I play the files on the computer.

Have you tested the same files on the computer to see if it happens there too?

Where did you get the files?

Are you by chance using Linux?

The act of copying a song from my computer to my iPod very occasionally corrupts the mp3.  It's compatability problem between however Apple implements FAT32 and Linux.  There's not much you can do but get a good copy of the song and try again.  I lost a couple songs because I didn't know they were corrupted and I copied them back, overwriting the original (Like a dumbass).

I've never experienced that with Linux - what makes you think it's an "compatibility problem" ?

Are you sure you're cleaning disconnecting (i.e. unmounting and/or ejecting the device), and that your filesystem doesn't contain any errors?

I used to do that, because Linux does a lazy copy, I would end up disconnecting my iRiver after the icon had disappeared from the desktop, but not before it'd finished copying. Result: corrupted files.

I now have a script which applies Replay and MP3 Gain, copies newer songs to my iRiver and unmounts it.

These all seem like interesting observations and I am using linux, but I have a hard time believing those are the issues. I also know that it isn't a corrupted mp3 as it works fine on my computer and I've never had the problem occur anywhere but with Rockbox. I do eject and safely remove it everywhere i use it, but possibly it has errors. i'll try fsck and see if anything comes from it. Keep ideas coming if you have some! thanks everybody!!

I reported it here, and someone told me as such, and pointed me to some source or other.  It was several months ago and I don't recall the details.

I'm a CLI guy, so no icons here. I eject it from the command line.  Every time.

It's been quite a while since it happened to me, now that I'm thinking of it.  And I listen to podcasts so I'm copying mp3s to the device almost daily.

Any idea why when I fsck my ipod, it asks me to correct or not correct and when i press correct, it leaves the filesystem unchanged?

Ok, I believe fsck is what got me into this problem. Awhile back I was having mounting issues on my desktop so I fsck'd the ipod and I think that's what caused the problem. It was corrupting the songs. Now I have recopied my collection and I have not experienced the problem since. Thanks for you input!
