New WPS for The Mixing Bowl (Ipod 5G)

Started work on a custom WPS for a website called The Mixing Bowl; they index almost all radio mixes from stations like BBC1 covering genres like techno, house, trance, hip hop, chill etc. Anyway it's an awesome site that I visit daily so I thought it deserved its own WPS. Right now this is a bit of a work in progress, I've got most of my fiddling with photoshop done. I still have to add a few images for the usual status icons etc. but I'd like some input on the placement of things.



OK, things that will have images, Battery level, Volume Level, Repeat settings, Shuffle, Lock, HDD
Play, Pause, Stop, RWD, FF.
Still  have to make a progress bar... should go underneath the genre field, or to the right of the playback buttons. The Next area scrolls between next song, artist, album.
I might make a volume slider in the space on the right hand side. Still a little indecisive about album art, I want the logo to be on the WPS, but it's big.

About the menu, as there are now icons in the menus, the text will be offset onto the black area but my sim is a little old so it doesn't do this. I am posting this in order to get as much feedback as possible so so please leave your comments, they are appreciated. Thanks

Hey Evilg, just wanted to give you a heads up for the mixing bowl link. Great site indeed. I'd forgotten all about it, as I'm still working my way through the last 7 years of my own weekly digital recordings of the Essential Mix, Breezeblock, Annie Nightingale, Kiss Breaks show, Blueroom etc.

As for your theme... I definitely like the tiled genre menu backdrop (although the border looks a little odd, regardless of the lack of indent). Not so keen WPS. The same tiled icon arrangement would look better IMHO.

Also, if you are going to keep the artist, title, album place holders... then you need to get these to line up with the text (it's slightly out vertically).

Good start though ;o)

my only criticism for now is that the backdrop for the browser has that really lightly colored edge which makes the first latter of each line pretty hard to read. I would be nice if you could do away with that.

That site does look mighty cool. They make it seem like it is impossible for someone behind a router to still use there site without port forwarding (which I have never been able to do with this router). Is this true or am I just reading it wrong?
P.S.: Anyway you could link me to the image you use for the backdrops base (the tiled genres) because I would like to use it my wps.

@Flid Yea, TMB has given me an enormous backlog of mixes . Looking at the wallpapers, I'm beginning to think I can use those for a menu, then make a separate WPS with the tiles, we'll see where it goes. Thanks for pointing out the alignment issues. I'd like to ask if The layout is OK, b/c I don't feel like redoing the whole WPS, just messing with BG, color etc for the tiles version.

@kinght4led, Yes that border is bugging me too, gonna shade it  dark blue.

@Big Mac the image I used for the tiles I put together from all the individual genre icons on TMB's site, I forgot to save just the plain tiles organized so I might take a bit to get that together.

Stuff that I added or fiddled with:
Battery Meter, Time/Date Format,
Alignment/Size/Placement of Song info (icons).
Added Progress bar with  Current Time/Total Time/ Time Remaining underneath
Moved Playback buttons- play, pause, stop these alternate. ff and rw light up when pressed.
Buttons for Repeat (off/all/one/AB/shuff/) and shuffle
Codec and bitrate info

This is pretty much my finished version of the WPS As always, any feedback is appreciated.
I will be posting a new menu backdrop and (hopefully) a WPS with the tiles as the background.

OK, made a couple of WPS's with the tiled background, no code, layout elements, icons etc. in these pics because I wanted to have some discussion as to which set is better: the big icons or the little ones?

Can you please pm me a link to your source file you are using. Like psd etc. And I like the smaller better because I think the text will interfere with the actual wps info if it is a similar size.

I'm a HUGE fan of TMB. It's my homepage and roughly 10 of my 20GB is music from that site. I am truly spoiled.

Un-flippin-fortunately I got a Gigabeat. In the future would be alright if I edited your theme to fit on the GB? I wouldn't upload it though, it would just be for me (though I do prefer the large icon, genre BG instead).

Hey, Job Van Dam, glad you like themixingbowl as much as I do, as well as the WPS. What do you think of the first one? Go ahead an edit whichever for the Gigabeat. Before you write off uploading it, post some pics in this forum when it's done and see what people think, I'm sure the Gigabeat users would love another WPS. Good luck and thanks again.
