Some general Gigabeat install questions.

I think this is actually my mistake.   ::) I just tried to download the GBSYSTEM.zip that I attached.  It seems there's issues with changing the file extension.  It must corrupt the zip file.

Instead, go to the bottom of the Gigabeat port page and download that GBSYSTEM.zip. GBPort

I've updated and tested the zip myself.  So unzip it to the root of your Gigabeat.  (Unzip to K:\, K:\ being the drive letter assigned to your Gigabeat.)

Once you do this, now you can either run the rbutil again or just copy the fwimg01.dat file to the K:\GBSYSTEM\FWIMG directory.

If you still can't get it let me know.  What country do you live in?  If you are here in the US, maybe we can chat online or by phone.

It would really pay dividends if you specify the specific errors you are getting.

The flash memory (which we can't change) is programmed to look for the file FWIMG01.DAT in the \GBSYSTEM\FWIMG\ Directory.  So we take the one that originally comes with the Gigabeat from the factory, rename it to FWIMG01.DAT.ORIG (ie original) and replace it with a file of our own design also called FWIMG01.DAT.  Okay, in actuality the flash memory loader is also looking for a few other files in that same directory, as well as some in GBSYSTEM\FONTS\ and I believe that this has been discussed to death above.

Our version of FWIMG01.DAT calls upon rockbox.gigabeat which is located in K:\, and rockbox.gigabeat calls upon settings, plugins, etc located in the .rockbox folder which IS K:\.rockbox

Can someone offer to remote desktop or vnc to legion's computer for just this one time and 1. make it work so legion isn't so frustrated, and 2. document what legion did wrong so that we can improve on the installation documentation?

With no intent to insult legion, but if a user manages to screw up our installation instructions, it means we haven't done our job by dumbing it down to the level of the most inexperienced user.

Legion, if you have MSN messenger, please send me a PM with your msn address and I will try to help you out.  If not, give me your time zone and we can try to determine a time that we can meet in the Gigabeat IRC channel (i figure it will be less crowded than the rockbox channel).  Your frustration is frustrating me, and what little I can do to alleviate this for both of us may improve both of our sanities.

To anyone who stumbles across this post in future: this is a one time offer for legion only, assuming Nate's solution doesn't work.

Well, the big screw up likely wasn't in our installation instructions, it was that he decided to format his gigabeat first, I think.
