a few bugs?

Try going into the debug menu and disabling "LCD Power Off". There's a bug with that which might be related to your problem.

Apparently it was related -- it works now with LCD Power Off set to "no."  Thanks!

Yea I noticed that too, it seems like it completely freezes everything except for the audio thread when the backlight is off.
