a few bugs?
« on: February 20, 2007, 08:10:49 PM »
well i have been using rockbox for a while now and have settled in to its operating system and i am liking it! however, i have a couple small problems/questions regarding the software.

keep in mind this is with the current build for the 30gb ipod 5.5g

1. while in databse mode,a long select to bring up playlist & playlist catalog
   when playlist catalog is selcted no files are shown if i "click" while in the playlist catalog section the player freezes and shuts down only responding to a menu+select reboot. hwever if the playlist cataloge is selected from a long select via the WPS it works fine.

2. when using rockboy and playing pokemon red you cant heal!? i have searched the forums and seem numerous reports of people claiming success with pokemon red. is there something im missing?

well i figured this one out!! it wasn't working while using evilg's cop build but it works with the official rockbox build :P i will do some experimenting to see if its the cop that makes problems or the unofficial build or both

3. occasionally when i turn my ipod on and click any sub catagory in the database mode(ex. artist) it says "searching ()... 0" for ~3 to 5 sec then proceeds to show me the list of artists correctly. why is this?

thanks!
john

1) this is not the place for bug reports... http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/index.php?type=2 is
3) if that annoys you enable loading the database to ram (general settings > file view > database)

I was wondering about something along these lines as well.
I got a Gigabeat F20 and there is like a one second delay between me pressing play/pause and it actually playing/pausing. Is there a way to get rid of that delay? Currently I only have Directory Cache on.

no, just live with it for a while... the gb port is only just working, it obviously need optimization which will come in due course

Actually, instant stop/pause should happen. Disable the Fade on Stop/Pause option.

thanks jdgordon. i will load it to the ram!

but in regards to 1. has no one  else ever had this problem?

when accessing the playlist function via the main menu it is fine
http://download.rockbox.org/manual/rockbox-ipodvideo/rockbox-buildch5.html#x8-750005.8

when accessing from the wps it is fine
http://download.rockbox.org/manual/rockbox-ipodvideo/rockbox-buildch4.html#x7-420004.3.3

however, while in database mode a long hold of the select key brings up a menu containing:
playlist           ->insert
                    ->insert shuffled
playlist catalog->blank(pressing select on blank screen results in a data abort at 00...006 and a frozen rockbox)

does this long hold menu perhaps apply to the specific artist/album/song that is highlighted at the time and not the generic playlists?

oh and by the way i couldnt find a bug report in flyspray which leads me to believe that the above hypothesis is true

I do have Fade on Stop/Pause option set to No. It's not a huge problem for me I would just prefer if it was instant. Thanks guys for the help though.

It's plenty instant for me, and always has been.

Can you tell me all your non-default settings, and which bootloader version and SVN revision you're running? (And I assume, of course, that it's an official build).

I have the same problem with my Gigabeat F40 -- if the LCD is off, it takes about 1-2 seconds to go into pause while playing or to resume playback from pause.  If the LCD is on, it's instantaneous.  Same thing if trying to adjust volume if the LCD is off - the response takes 1-2 seconds. "First keypress enables backlight only" is set to off.

Using most current bootloader and SVN r12471-070224.

I'd not filed a bug report because I thought it was an optimization issue and would be fixed eventually.

Try going into the debug menu and disabling "LCD Power Off". There's a bug with that which might be related to your problem.

Apparently it was related -- it works now with LCD Power Off set to "no."  Thanks!

Yea I noticed that too, it seems like it completely freezes everything except for the audio thread when the backlight is off.
