How do you organize your files?
scubacoles:
Is there Library Organising software that has this type of flexibility?
Currently I use iTunes as a Library Organiser, but I'm not entirely happy with it.
Some of the suggestions here are very interesting.
Yotto:
The library organizing software I use is called Linux. :)
In other words, I manage my own files. Not just for music, but for everything. I wouldn't trust some piece of software to do it well for me behind the scenes.
And before you say anything about the fact that Linux is "some piece of software doing it for me behind the scenes" you gotta draw the line somewhere, and the core OS seems a pretty logical place.

There is  program I use called J River Media Center that will let you choose how you want your music organized, and transfer your music to your device in any folder structure you choose.

BTW- I have Media Center transfer and store my music on my iPod in a _Music/Artist/Album/Track#-Title format.
Nate!:
scubacoles: I know you've seen us talk a bunch about Media Monkey on another board, but I'll give an example of how powerful I found it to be.
I don't know what software did it or if I even initiated it, but my library was completely out of wack. It mainly stemmed from either WMP or Napster etc., putting each song from each artist in a separate artist\album folder. Now this is how I have my music organized, but it gets crazy with say soundtracks and other "Various Artists" records. (Oldies compilations, Duets, Mix tapes, etc.)
I can search for an album and it will pull all songs with that same album tag. I can then set the Album Artist to Various Artists. The normal Artist tag, I leave with whom ever is "performing" the song. Then I hit a key combo to move and rename all of those songs into a Music\Album Artist\Album\#-Track structure. There's also a check to delete the emptied folder that the songs were in originally.
Took a little work but my library is getting back to its original organized state. (Whatever it was that took over my library before also put a space between the track num and name. Really ticked me off. As stated above, I can move and rename the tracks in one operation.)
Moderators: sorry this has nothing to do with Rockbox. Not sure what you guys plan to do, but I do understand that this has nothing-to-do-with-Rockbox.
D2unk M0nk:
Music/A/Artist/Year - Album/## - Track.flac
*A being the first letter of the artist, if the artist begings with a number or special character they are sorted into the "#" folder, if the artist begins with "The" for example "The Beatles" the folder is placed in "B" and re-named to "Beatles, The".
I also have my files tagged so I can browse about my music using the database.
