/.rockbox folder not installing

Hi,

I'm on Windows 98SE. I downloaded the Rockbox package and extracted the folder and the file to my X5: but instead of getting

L:\.rockbox\

I get

L:\rockbox\

which renders the installation incomplete.

I've checked the manual and there's no mention of it.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Inside the \Rockbox\ folder is there a .rockbox folder?

Usually this means that you've extracted improperly, telling the extractor to create a folder from the archive name.

No, it's just as I said:

L:\rockbox\

then inside that, the folders that are inside the \.rockbox folder in the archive. I tried re-installing to check: same result.

I'm using IZArc if that's any difference.

Try using an archive tool that's not going to rename files without asking your permission, renaming the folder to .rockbox, or otherwise completing the installation properly?

seems Izcrap is buggy :-)

But could not You just rename rockbox to .rockbox ?
However perhaps that would left othe dot-files wrongly named within .rockbox/*

Windows explorer does not allow you to name files/folders that start with a "." - you have to do it from the command line, and as I know now from a lot of time spent in the apple install forum - lots of people have never even heard of the command prompt - let alone know how to use it!

Ok, don't put the, into that inferno of command line.

Let them use full-featured fiule GUI like Total Commander = i guess trial 30 days would be enough for them to install Mac OS ?
Or let them use less featurous but similar GUI of 7-zip

They both can rename files and folders into dot-style.
