8 mb RAM chip for me??

(1/2) > >>

madmodder:
Hello all

I want to change my ram chip for the 8mb unit as I have a 100gb hdd in my "rockbox" (actually the archos jukebox recorder 10) and the hdd takes 900ma  :o
I have some old laptop memory, it seems to have the right memory config but the chips are 54pin tsop :(
The original mod done online looks messy enogh as it is..
So can anyone help me out?

Thanks all

madmodder:
Ok panic over.
I've managed to source a chip so that's my request solved by myself  :D
(the system will not let me self-terminate LOL ) - I mean delete

scorche:
Where did you get the chip from?

I have been trying to find one for months now!

madmodder:
Yes! Ram Chips are available through this guy!
Bruce Benson "bruce - at - sparkybruce - dot com"

If you count the two chips I have dibs on - then he's got 79 chips available
The cost is £5 per chip (that's pounds sterling) PLUS a small fee for postage.
My quote was more that reasonble but I guess the postage will depend on where you live!

Now I have an archos recorder that I am modding myself and I'm prepared to put a guide up on this site

Bruce:
Hello all , yes  I do have a supply of the chips , though after counting them i the tray I will have 68 left after I send two to madmodder.

They are made by ISSI and I have the full data sheet availiable though it's 160Kbytes so I can't attach it on here.

I will put it on my website and post a link from here tomorrow.

I modified my 6G recorder over three years ago and it hasn't missed a beat.

I have sent out a number of chips to people all over the world but interest had appeared to have stopped just over a year ago. So the chips have been sat in their packing tray all wrapped up with all of the other chips that I keep.

Now if only I could find some one that wanted 16Mbyte EDO laptop SODIMMS (72pin) as I have over 400 brand new ones)......

Thanks to everyone for the interest , and please feel free to ask me any questions to the modification. I can even take my one to bits again to take some detailed pictures if that would help.

I considered doing an upgrade service , but at a few hours a time it probably wouldn't be worth it.

I do have a number of diferent memory chips from smaller EDO's right up to 128Mbit PC133 SDRAM's, and I am currently building a number crunching farm (for boinc and seti) out of scrap Set top boxes from work.

1000 boxes each with a 350mips PowerPC with 128Mbytes Ram , 16Mbytes Nand , 10/100 ethernet, running linux and the best bit consuming just under 2watts of power. All in a pcb that's 75 by 75mm.

Thanks

Bruce
