help!! h120 hd broken!
dr.pheel:
hi,
I am scared to death (almost...) my iriver h120 seems to be broken - Â when I startup it takes for ever until finally showing "ata error: -1 Â insert usb cable and press a button"
unfortunately I then cannot go into usb mode...the red light stays on all the time, and it doesn't show up on my pc.
I still have warrenty, but it is obvious that rockbox is installed because the bootloader  starts...but how do i erase rockbox without being able to enter usb mode???
any suggestions on what I can do???
help!!
thank you, ph
Davide-NYC:
what happens if you turn it off, then insert the usb cable and then turn it back on?
dr.pheel:
I had tried that of course...
it just tries to boot for a long time then shows the same thing...
in iriver firmware it will say check HDD connection underneith the startuplogo and then finally go into normal mode, I can even navigat to the setup stuff, but as soon as i try to access the root it will show me some chinese signs and freeze
I tried to format the disc while in iriver firmware, but it says "cant format" eventually
does anyone of the european users out there know if we have 12 or 24 months of warrenty (I thought it was generally 12 for electronics...) but it says 12 on the iriver homepage...
what do I do without warrenty?
can I buy a harddisc and put it in myself?
is there a guide how to do this somewhere on the rockbox page?
I can't imagine life without my h120 (I use it all the time as I am a musician - rec, database, listening...)

I had the exact same error message. Â Just this week I received my new hard disk and replaced it. Â Works like a champ again. Â The process is simple and only requires a #5 torx wrench which can be purchased for less than $3. Â I got the hard drive for $60 from Computer Giants. Â Here's illustrated guide to the replacement
http://www.pdainternalbattery.com/iriverinstall.html
Once the new HD is in you need to format it. Â Instructions here

Two cautions; Â 1) the screws are VERY small, be careful not to drop one into the headphone jack or similar 2) don''t attempt the replacement after drinking a grande double expresso

hi,
I have already acepted the fact that I will have to replace the HDD - now I was wondering if I should go for a 40gb HDD as I am at it...
I checked with mystic river and found out that a
Toshiba MK4007GAL
should fit - now I could only find a Toshiba MK4009GAL 40GB ZIF over here in europe so far...
does anyone know if that will fit? or what else I could/should buy?
thanx ph
