I don't think Replaygain is expensive.  It should happen basically for free.

OK, not replaygain :)  However, my point about the equalizer and comparing under the same conditions stands.

I think that the replaygain gain is added in the DSP step (by the CPU) so while it's not 'intensive' it is an extra step, I think.

Lear:
Replaygain is an extra DSP step. It isn't free (unless you already use the pre-cut in the software equalizer), but the cost is fairly low.
