Complete newb to Rockbox, help would be appreciated.
« on: February 14, 2007, 12:10:45 AM »
Ok so I just got my iPod Nano 1st gen today.  I'm fairly familiar with PSP homebrew and firmware hacks, so hopefully there are some similarities.  I want to install Rockbox because I dont really like iTunes, but I have a few questions first.

I know that with the PSP hacks are only possible with certain firmwares, is this also true on the iPod?  I have firmware version 1.2 on my iPod right now.

And if firmware version 1.2 cant be hacked, is there any way to downgrade the firmware?

Also, is there any chance that Rockbox or any other iPod hack could brick my iPod?  (I want to be extra careful because it's new)

Any help is appreciated.

No, you can't brick your iPod during the install process. The only known way to brick an iPod (outside of physical abuse) is to trigger a reboot during an official firmware update. Since we don't actually modify the firmware, we're safe.

As for firmware versions, you'll notice that the manual doesn't specify that it requires a specific version. This is intentional.
