compiling themes

(1/1)

derekvan:
Hi,

I have successfully compiled once, but am unsure about how to manage themes after compilation.  Do I need to add them to the rockbox.zip file manually each time I recompile, or is there somewhere or someway to place them in the source folder so that they are compiled into the rockbox.zip automatically?

Thanks!

Job Van Dam:
I'm not really sure what you're saying but .cfg files go in the .rockbox/themes folder, .wps files go in the .rockbox/wps folder along with the folder it references, if the theme uses a backdrop the backdrop should be in the .rockbox/backdrops folder.

You can drag and drop stuff into those folders whenever you want and next time you fire up Rockbox you can use those themes (push the Menu button and then go to Browse Themes).

Sorry about that--I should have been more clear.  I am compiling rockbox on my own to get the album art patch.  Recompiling each time results in a fresh .rockbox folder that only has the standard themes in it.  I'm wondering if there's a place to put in themes _before_ I compile so that I don't have to add them manually to .rockbox each time.  Maybe I'm approaching the problem all wrong?

Maybe...

Once your newly patched build is made, it should be sufficient to unzip it onto your player to update the build.

All the (Windows) archive tools I've used only update the specific files that are in the zip file, they should not delete any pre-existing ones, so your current theme/wps files should be safe.

Ahh, of course.  I was thinking that it may be better to just delete the .rockbox folder on the player to make sure i wasn't mixing old and new files, but that's probably a little too over-cautious.  You're right that just copying the new in there should leave all that stuff alone.  Thanks!
