Multi CD disks
« on: February 12, 2007, 06:00:41 AM »
Hi,

I've noticed that multi-album CDs don't appear to be played in the correct order. I've got a 2 CD album, ripped as MP3s. Each track has TPOS (part of set) set to either 1 or 2 (for disc 1 or 2) and an appropriate track number.

However, when I tried to play the album by browsing using the database, the playlist appeared to be playing

CD1 track 1
CD2 track 1
CD1 track 2
CD2 track 2

...

etc.

Is this a known limitation, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Andy

Ah, just found this.

This is a couple of months old, so I guess it's not a 'simple' fix?

I guess I inadvertently avoided this issue originally, when naming my multi-disc sets,

Dreamgirls (1)
Dreamgirls (2)

etc.

This also is helpful for me in identifying which of the discs in the set is playing, or which one I should select at a glance.

Yes, but I don't particularly want to have to 'seperate' two discs of a multi-disc set. Ideally they should both have the same title, so that I can play the whole set in one operation.

I might have a delve through the code and see how difficult it would be to add this.

One way to get around this would be to prepend the disc number to the track numbers in the tags.

disc 1 track 01 -> track 101
disc 1 track 02 -> track 102
disc 2 track 01 -> track 201
...

It may not be the best way, but it should work.

Yes, I realise that. However, I'd prefer my music were tagged correctly personally.

I'll start looking at the code and see how difficult it is to put in.

I made a patch for this already, it is on the patch tracker, but I need to send the updated version, because the one on the tracker it's not compatible with current SVN I think

I'll send it tomorrow because it's too late here ;)

It seems to me that fully-correct tagging would include the disc #.  After making that assumption, maybe it would require only simple software modification to account for disc # also?

or does ID3v2 not use disc #? i forget.  that's why i use FLAC and Vorbis exclusively -- non-idiotic tagging capabilities  ::)

My tags do include the disc number. However, it appears the Rockbox currently doesn't read it (until the patch is updated)
