Using COP with IPL Loader2 (reinstall with Rockbox BootLoader) 5G iPod

(1/2) > >>

shifty:
Hello,

I am running an iPod 5G tribooted with Apple FW, IPL and Rockbox.  I was wanting to use an experimental build of Rockbox to try out the cop patch, but the disclaimer said I needed to update the Rockbox bootloader, but since I installed IPL before Rockbox I am running the IPL Loader2.

Will the cop patch only work with the new Rockbox loader and if so can I still triboot with the Rockbox Loader.

Thanks for all the help and all the work that goes on around here.

Peace

That's a bit of a problem. It appears that the the COP patch requires the newer rockbox bootloader (the one ending in .ipod), and not 2.4 of the iPL (or the older style (.bin) bootloader). Conversely, the newer bootloader seems to have some issues with booting the original firmware.

See http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/6629 for some more info.

The Rockbox bootloader will also boot IPL, you just won't have the "fancy" menu.

linuxstb:
The current (SVN) version of loader2 starts Rockbox properly (i.e. with the COP under control), just not the very old 2.4 release of loader2.

The current Rockbox bootloader only appears to have issues with the original firmware on the 4g greyscale and both mini generations - on all other ipods, dual-boot is fine.

FWIW (and I know this isn't a Loader2 forum), the new version is available from http://www.ipodlinux.org/Loader2 under the name http://www.ipodlinux.org/Image:Ipodloader2-2.5d6.tar.gz, and I can confirm that it loaders COP just fine!

I believe it has to be used with the old ipod_fw method, and (probably) the old ipodpatcher as well.
