Can't find answer (Rockbox misses certain artists, iPod 5G)
(1/1)
fooqwah:
Installation was great, database initialized fine, lovely work there. Here's the problem, it's missing some of my artists that should be there. Most notable ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead and 2pac. Also, anything starting with A is missing, and so is Belle and Sebastian.
Any thing might be causing this?

Are the files in question mp3s with proper (ID3) tags?
Before you say "they show up in iTunes" let me interject that iTunes does not store all changes in the ID3 tags - some get stored only in the iTunes Database, which Rockbox does not read.

I now believe this was the iPod, not Rockbox. Shortly after this happened my iPod went down with the screen of death and had to be reformatted.
Thanks for the help anyways.

Hi,
I am having the same issue with ...And You Will Know Us. I have an iRiver iHP-120 and everything except ...And You Will Know Us shows up just fine. I have looked in WinAmp at the ID3 tags and both v1 and v2 look correct.
This seems to be an issue of Rock Box ignoring folders/files that start with a dot.

If you are talking in File View, not Database...
Folders whose name starts with a period are considered hidden folders, and you will have to change your file view type to "all" from "supported".
Out of curiosity, which tagging program created that artist folder? Every tagger I have used (IIRC) refuses to use the leading periods.
