Another Question
« on: February 10, 2007, 11:24:13 AM »
What files do you actually have to manually put on your Ipod if any when it is connected. If there are any please tell me where on the Ipod folder were the must be placed when connected. Just wonder cause I had problem following some of the instruction and it said I had a Error !.

Also here is some info to help answer my newer question. This is what it says to do. The part in bold is what I am unsure about.

 b) Unzip rockbox.zip and rockbox-fonts.zip to your iPod

The rockbox.zip you have downloaded contains the Rockbox firmware itself (a file called rockbox.ipod) plus a support directory containing configuration files, plugins, audio codecs, fonts and themes. This directory is called ".rockbox" (note the dot at the start of the name).

To install (or upgrade) Rockbox you need to attach your iPod to your PC via USB or Firewire, ensure that iTunes is set up to allow you to access your ipod as a disk, and then unzip both rockbox.zip and rockbox-fonts.zip to the top-level (root) folder on your iPod.

ALERT! NOTE: Make sure (if you are using any Windows OS earlier than Windows 2000) that you eject the iPod with the "Unplug or Eject Hardware" (found in the system tray next to the clock) before unplugging it, or there will almost certainly be corrupted files and Rockbox will act up! However, there is no need to eject your ipod yet - just go to Step 2 and install the bootloader.

It would help if you told us where exactly you get stuck?

And, are you following the official instructions in the manual?

Yea I am following the official instructions. Here is where I get stuck. I know this part is very simple but I just don't understand it.

Here is an image to help you know where I get stuck:

Just follow the guide. Reading it carefully will be much quicker than coming back here and asking about every step.

I think that the manual answers your question pretty clearly:

Quote
After downloading the Rockbox package connect your player to the computer via USB as described in the manual that came with your player. Take the file that you downloaded above, and extract its contents to your player’s drive.

Use the “Extract all” command of your unzip program to extract the files in the .zip file onto your player. Note that the entire contents of the .zip file should be extracted directly to the root of your player’s drive. Do not try to create a separate directory or folder on your player for the Rockbox files! The .zip file already contains the internal directory structure that Rockbox needs.

Note: If the contents of the .zip file are extracted correctly, you will have a file called rockbox.ipod in the main folder of your player’s drive, and also a folder called /.rockbox, which contains a number of other folders and system files needed by Rockbox. If you receive a “-1” error when you start Rockbox, you have not extracted the contents of the .zip file to the proper location.
