I need help

I am trying to install rockbox but I dont see the rockbox folder on my iaudiox5.  I see it when I connect to the computer but when I disconnect it is not there.  What am I doing wrong?  The firmware is already installed.

It's simply hidden. It'll be there if you change the File View mode to All

You might want to invest a little time into the manual, if your first response wasn't to simply look it up there. The manual has the answers to many common problems and tells how to use the majority of features of Rockbox.

actually I am reading the manual, but I didnt get very far as I didnt belive it was installed.   I dont see any changes.  But since you say that it there I will go see if I can  find out how to find it.

I utterly confused.  I think I have done something incorrectly it is not booting in Rockbox.  I updated the firmware to  2.10-e and the I placed the .rockbox folder and rock.iaudio folder in the root folder. (which Istill cant see but have since learned is fine.

Am I missing something?  My player doesnt appear to have changed other than the firmware.

Okay, by 'root folder' you just mean the drive right. Like, if your player is G:, you have G:\Rockbox.iaudio and G:\.rockbox\ ?

You say nothing has changed other than the firmware. Out of curiosity, what do you expect to change when you put an alternative firmware on your player other than the firmware?

I expected to be able to use the added rockboxfeatures.   I dont see them

If you're in Rockbox, it should simply boot into a filetree view.

If you see the original firmware, then you haven't finished installing it yet.

It sounds like you didn't install the bootloader. You must patch the 2.10-e firmware file with a bootloader (either the official RB-only bootloader or the unofficial dual boot bootloader) and then flash it.

Hi,  I'm having a similar problem, and when you mention "patching" the boot loader and "flashing" it, I think I'm missing a step.  I've downloaded and unzipped the .rockbox folder and rockbox.iaudio file, and those have been copied to the drive (in my case f:\).  I then copied x5_fw to the firmware folder on the player.  This is where I think I'm having trouble.  I clicked on "remove hardware" in the taskbar, and waited for the "safe to remove hardware", I then disconnected the USB from the computer, then pulled the USB from the subpack, plugged in the charger to the subpack and turned the player on.  Nothing happened.  I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong in that order.  I tried both boot loaders (x5_fw and x5v_fw), neither made a difference.  I'm not sure if theres a way to turn the player off when its connected to the computer other than to hit "safely remove hardware".

Sorry if I'm just being completely useless, but, I've tried it a bunch of different ways and nothing is happening.  I've just deleted the 3 files when its been connected a bunch of times and re-tried it, will that make a difference?

One other thing, do you install the firmware before the bootloader?  maybe thats my problem.

Out of curiosity:
A) What makes that tutorial specifically better than the instructions in the manual
and
B) Why not contribute by helping improve the manual rather than by posting random tutorials making it even harder for people to know what to read?
