Ipod 5g questions about usb host and remote

It's a "SUNTAC". Other than that, there's no model number or serial. I've thrown away the packaging. And, of course, it's made in china.
It has hold, play/pause, volume up/down, track forward/back and album forward/back. Oh, here's a link to it. FYI I paid half that for it  ;D

I tried plugging it in, rebooting, then using it. I also tried plugging it in after booting (into Apple OS). Still no joy. Now I want to try it on another iPod to see if the remote itself is still functioning properly  :-\ Or i'll bite the bullet and restore my iPod and then try it... again.
