After Installing Rockbox Cannot Load Original OS!

dent:
I am now unable to boot my original firmware on my Fat32 IPOD 60 Gig Video 5G. Not entirely sure when this problem started - its been a while since I wanted to watch Videos. I initially thought that the issue may have been bootloader related, so I downloaded the latest from the Ipod manual links and used the Mac IPOD patcher app to install it. Still no success.

Ive also noticed that I get regular system freezes. This seems to happen when i start playing a directory of tracks and switch the unit into HOLD. Whats really weird is that It doesn't seem to freeze if I exit the WPS and HOLD it on the main menu or file browser screens.

I am now considering reverting back to the original firmware bootpartition... Any ideas?

Oh, I forgot, does the restore function wipe the contents of the pod? Im in the process of doing a backup anyway, but it would help if I didnt have to copy all the tracks back on again.

linuxstb:
How are you trying to boot the original firmware, and what happens when you do?

Earlier versions (0.6 I think) of ipodpatcher had a bug which would have caused problems if you had tried to upgrade an existing bootloader, but that's fixed now.

You should just need to restore your original firmware partition, and then install the bootloader with the latest ipodpatcher.

(the above applies to the 5g - the bugs with the 4g greyscale and minis still exist)

Hi,

I have read about the new fix with the ipod bootloader: http://build.rockbox.org/cvsmod/chlog-20070221T214512Z.html

Does it mean that my iPod mini (2G) now works with the new installation method? (Then I will test it soon.) Or is it still a problem at the ipodpatcher.exe?
Sorry, but I'm confused... :-\

linuxstb:
No, that bugfix just related to the new work-in-progress Rockbox GUI installer/updater utility (rbutil - Rockbox Utility) - as you can see by the filename of the file that that change applied to.

The problems with the 4g and mini still remain, but are being worked on.

Turok:
Okay, thanks for your reply and the new information about the "grayscale problem". Great work! :)
