boot menu/loader2

i have installed ipod loader 2.4 and installed rockbox but i cant get to the boot menu. i dont know what im doing wrong. i only have the apple os and rockbox, but the ipodloader 2.4 is supposed to support those without ipl. any suggestions?

We do not provide support for Loader 2. If it's not working as it's supposed to be, contact the appropriate support channel. Once you have Rockbox loaded, we can provide help with it, though.

ok, then what do you guys support for switching operation systems? i cant get back to my original apple firmware.

Well the official Rockbox bootloader works fine for allowing you to boot into either the original firmware or Rockbox. It doesn't have a menu, you simply turn on the hold switch immediately after powering up the iPod to go to the Apple software.

Rockbox supports dual boot.  Follow the installation instructions in the manual.

I'd suggest people need to all be on the same page re: ipods.

The new bootloader is confirmed by the wiki http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodInstallationBeta to have problems booting the Apple firmware with the 4G (gray), mini 1g, and mini 2g ipods. The 4g manual http://download.rockbox.org/manual/rockbox-ipod4gray/rockbox-buildch2.html#x4-110002.2.3(at least -- I didn't check the minis') makes no mention of this.

"NOTE: These instructions are known to have problems with the 1st and 2nd Generation Mini and 4G (Greyscale) ipods - Rockbox loads correctly, but the original Apple firmware will not start. If you have one of these ipods, you should continue using the old installation instructions linked to from the IpodPort page. "

mikeage, please open a bug report under the category 'manual' or (better yet) submit a patch with the changes that need to be made. If you can do that, I will update the manual as soon as I have a chance, or one of the other manual authors will do it sooner.
