secure erase plugin?
« on: February 06, 2007, 06:37:23 AM »
Hi, just thought about a function/plugin to securely erase specific folders and filetypes from the harddisk by overwriting them in about 3-7 rounds. As I'm a beginner in c and coding generally I would appreciate it if somebody could give me some hints, or if anyone did this already. I took the disktidy source for setting it up on the given code but there's no function like overwriting the files implemented so if anyone is interested and might try to help me to implement that, just pm or reply. Would be amazing!

Glad to see another person who wants to get into development!

What would be the purpose of this plugin though?  If someone is serious about security, they would not have sensitive files on a portable device in the first place.

The purpose is to get more privacy. I know you shouldn't store sensible data on a portable device, but as some less sensible files could get more sensible in some situations it would be great to have the function of just securely erasing these files out of the rockbox.
