i have both the .rockbox folder and rockbox.ipod in ipod_control. on boot-up, i get the same error he got. rockbox.ipod IS outside of .rockbox. i did have to uninstall after an error, but the manual changed in the few minutes spent during that, and the new instruction sworked fine for me, until the -1 error.
can anyone help me trouble shoot this?

forgot to mention, its a 1st gen nano.

They should not be inside ipod_control, they should be at the top-level (root) of your ipod.

which would the root be? i tried putting it outside of all folders, but then it wouldnt even boot.

The root is where ipod_control is - you should see rockbox.ipod, .rockbox and ipod_control all in the same place.

ah, i misread. its booted, no problems so far. time to go enjoy rockbox! thanks!
