Ipod and Car charging

im a cheap bastard and made my own car charger/car player.  the ipod USB cable is plugged into a USB power inverter (worked fine with original ipod software)  with rockbox then i plug it in the music stops and it states,  do not disconnect, then reboots and does a death cycle of it over and over that is until i unplug it from the usb power.  is there a setting im missing or anything?  let me know.

Just hold Menu while plugging it in.

Just to clarify, holding menu whilst inserting a USB charger is currently a workaround for a bug in Rockbox (it mis-detects it as a connection to a computer).  It shouldn't do what you desribe and hopefully it will be fixed soon.

This should now be fixed - try upgrading to the latest "current build".
