Battery Capacity Indicator Toshiba Gigabeat X30
« on: February 01, 2007, 02:10:25 AM »
Hokay, bit confused here....

Loaded Rockbox onto my Toshiba Gigabeat X30, all went damned well.

Now with battery capacity, the specs on Rockbox say that the X30 has an 830mAh capacity battery. The battery capacity setting in Rockbox starts at 1500mAh  ???

What setting should I use in Rockbox  ?

I also notice that the battery says it's empty after about about 7 hours usage ( random play full 20GB library ), but it still keeps playing.

I'm running the battery bench test as I type, but I'd like the battery indicator to at least be a little bit accurate.

What should I do here ???????

The battery setting makes no difference to run-time, it's just what the firmware uses to work out the estimated time remaining with the battery, so it's not relavent really. And even set right will make NO difference to how long your battery lasts...

I realize that however I'd like to know at least approximately how much battery I've got. When I'm near a PC these days I can recharge via USB with rockbox and still play, but if I'm not near a PC............

running Battery Bench I ended up getting around 12.5 hours out of the player.  This was with no equalizer, whole playlist shuffled, 3sec backlight off, directory cache. this was checking the screen once and a while and going to menus, probably more "real life" than just letting it play and not touching anything.

After around 8 hours, it showed the battery as empty, but still operated for another 4.5 hours.

I'm going to take the battery capacity up and see how the indicator goes.

The battery percentage is calculated from a discharge curve that has to be calibrated for each target individually. This percentage AND the battery capacity are used to calculate the remaining battery time.
Upping the capacity will not affect the percentage meter and changing the discharge curve will not affect batterylife (as long as no-one enables low battery shutdown)
