iPod 5.5g 30 gig...Brand New iPod, Brand new Problems...
« on: January 30, 2007, 08:38:48 PM »
Long story short, my brother got an iPod 5.5g 30 gig. I tried installing rockbox on it.

I installed everything according to the wiki, and now when it starts up, it goes immideately to the rockbox screen. Here's what it says.

Code: [Select]
Rockbox boot loader
Version: 20060126-1839
IPOD version: 0xFFFFFFFF
TOSHIBA MK3008GAL
No partition found
Partition 1: 0x0B 7130 MB
Loading Rockbox. . .

And then it hangs. Any ideas? I'm thinking there's something very wrong, because it's seeing ipod versioin 0xFFFFFFFF, which, correct me if I'm wrong, means it's not detecting which version of the ipod it is. The No Partition found error could be another issue  :P.

I need help and fast, because if I bricked my brother's BRAND NEW ipod, he's going to kill me...

-Dan

EDIT:  Alright, Nevermind--Totally forgot about the Select+Play for Emergency Disk Mode.

Other than the disk model reported, that's the exact same screen I'd expect to see on a 80GB currently. Wonder if they've started fiddling with the sector sizes on the 30GB as well now?

You MUST follow the install instructions in the manual for a 5.5g.  The date of the bootloader (January 2006) shows you followed an old set of instructions and installed an old bootloader.

Restore your ipod and try again.

Can't believe I missed that.  ::)

I must be getting old.
