Missing Plugins in Rockbox Distribution?
« on: January 30, 2007, 04:40:21 PM »
I downloaded Rockbox about a week ago, and have sorted out a few bugs by turning on/off a few settings. I'm very happy with the firmware, as it's much more user-oriented than the original Iriver crap (I have an Iriver H10 20gb). However, I recently wanted to view video on my H10, and I found the plugin mpegplayer on the twiki here; However, the twiki specifically states that plugins come bundled with the Rockbox software. I checked my Rockbox plugins and the first plugin I have is the battery benchmark, and I only have about 20 or so, while the plugin list on the twiki spans for at least 40 or 50. I tried updating to a daily build, as the H10 doesn't have an official release yet, but the same plugins were missing in the new downloaded zip file. What am I doing wrong?!? Is the H10 firmware distribution supposed to be missing that many plugins? Or am I just doing something stupid, as usual?
Thanks for the help!
(Oh, and the main help I'm looking for is how to get mpegplayer to work/show up. Thanks!)

Rockbox is the best thing since sliced bread. But then again, sliced bread can taste really bland and make you gag in the mornings, so I guess Rockbox is a heck of a lot better than sliced bread. :)

Please read the manual, or the wiki page http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/PluginMpegplayer. They both have the information you need. You can just "open" an suitable video file and it will start playing.

I did, and I realize that my question was a tad stupid ^_^
However, another problem has arisen - After encoding the file with the VLC-transcode.bat file and transferring the file to my Iriver, I can Open With => mpegplayer, but the screen goes empty, and a message appears that says "Buffering..." after which the player suddenly returns to the file browser/database screen.
o_O?!?

Then the conversion odviously didn't entirely work, or you had a setting a tad off. THat's what always happens to me.

If you need to "Open With" rather than simply clicking it... is it actually a .mpg?

The .bat used to create m2v files which aren't what the current mpegplayer uses.

it is a real mpeg file, i just meant that i had the option of playing it with mpegplayer, simply clicking on it also begins the "buffering..." freeze thing i described
the conversion should've worked though, i could play the file perfectly well on my computer o_O
