IPod 5G / Iriver H1** audio difference?

(1/1)

hellokytty:
Hi,

my H120 will celebrate its second birthday in a few days and I always loved it very much. But since I want a new mp3 Player which has a colour screen and still offers the great possibilities of rockbox I'm thinking about buying an Ipod 5G. There are still some questions, maybe you may help me.

Does the sound quality comply with my Iriver (using rockbox)?
Do Winamp Playlist work (just had to ask, sorry)?
Is the "wheel" supported adequately?
Is there a zoom function when you view jpeg-files?
What's the difference between IPod 5G and 5.5G?

Thank you very much (yes, I search the forum *g*)

saratoga:
Sound quality on portable players is pretty much the same, although the ipod has bass issues if used with very low impedance headphones (16 ohms).

Software features are the same as with the h120 (since the software is the same ...)

The 5.5G has a slightly different screen and the disk is accessed differently.  The 80GB 5.5G is not supported at all in Rockbox (although it might be eventually).

Llorean:
If I listen with Sennheiser CX300s I can hear a noticeable (but somewhat faint) hiss in the H100. In the iPod Nano it is significantly less (but still there.)

For reference, this hiss becomes a problem around the -50db mark on the H120, so it's probably not an issue for many people, and I can't hear it at all with any of the other headphones I have around.

So there is some difference in actual output quality between the two of them, though whether it's a difference that will affect you at all is arguable.
