Problem :[
« on: January 29, 2007, 02:38:49 AM »
Alright, so I'm running on a Toshiba Gigabeat F40, and I recently put Rockbox on it, and I'm loving it. I put it on I think last Monday, but last night I think I did something bad. I had it charging, and was messing with it when it was turning on, pressing A to run the original firmware, etc. Well, I turned it on when the battery switch was off, but I had the AC adapter plugged into it. It gave me a warning that the battery was low and turned itself off. I turned on the battery switch, and the plug icon showed that the battery was charging, but when I tried turning it on, all that happened was that the backlight would turn off, and then revert to the charging screen. I tried unplugging the AC, turning the battery on and off, anything I could think off. Could anyone troubleshoot me as to what may have happened? This would be pretty nice, since my mom just bought this for me and I'm not sure I want to tell her that I effed it up. If all else fails, I'll just magnet it and have it sent in for the warranty, but I want to at least make sure that the hard disk was wiped. Any feedback would be excellent. Thank you. :]

Your storry is very difficult to read. Could you next time not write all your sentences on the same line? Also, can you change the subject to something useful?

There is some bug in rockbox shutdown which makes the Gigabeat sometimes give this warning, even if the battery if not empty. Just power on again and it should work.

So, what happens in those cases?

There didn't seem to be any logical line breaks, but whatever. When I did try turning it on, it did the same exact thing with the backlight.

Very strange indeed. I will ask some other Gigabeat owners if they have any idea what might be wrong.

One thing you could try is to open the player and boot it without the HDD connected, if it does boot (and give you a system error) you can reconnect the HDD (while it's on) and then connect to USB to fix the bootloader file.

can you boot at all?? I'm sorry I too am having trouble understanding what your saying.

Do you see anything when you boot. If you can see rockbox starting to load and then the backlight turns off after that, it could be some power management thing with the new config files that are written or something.

IF... you can boot, turn it on and flip the hold switch while it's booting.
