New 30gig video display freezes during playback. HELP ME =O

I just got an ipod yesterday with the idea of using and developing rockbox and having an awesome device. However, I'm having some trouble.

I've tried reinstalling rockbox (the whole thing), it didn't help. The only things on my ipod are a completely fresh rockbox install of the daily ipod video build+fonts and one folder of one album of mp3s encoded by LAME3.90 and tagged with id3v2.4 via foobar2000 9.42.

All I do after the install is select the folder to play and durring one of the first few songs, the display freezes and all the buttons except the menu+select reset. It's usually at 24 seconds into a song if I'm not pressing any buttons. I usually leave it on the WPS and it freezes, but it has also frozen on a menu. It seems to do it when I'm not actively doing anything with the ipod for a little while. The backlight timer also still works and does turn on for any button press, but the buttons don't do anything else.

More info that might help: After I do the install, I do "safely disconnect hardware" in windows, then the ipod restarts and it reconnects the usb, so I wait for it, and itunes pops up and says "Itunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with iTunes." Then I close itunes (which only warned me but didn't seem to actually do anything) and do the safely disconnect hardware again. Then I unplug the ipod when it says safe to disconnect. Could itunes or this second connection cause a problem?

I've fully read the manual, checked the wiki, looked for stickies and don't see anything. Got any ideas? Anything I could do to troubleshoot or try to get a workaround going?

Like wav, ogg, etc...

Hi, first of all I would like to thank rockbox developpers
I got the same problem with my 30GB Ipod video (5.5g, late 2006).
After 5-10 minutes of playback (with hold) without touching the Ipod, it freezes. The playback still active (I hear music) but I have to reboot to browse songs.
I play mostly mp3 files (90% of my discography).

Try flipping the hold switch on and then off again.

Same thing on my 5g 60gb. I dont think it does it when playing FLAC files.

I've done a test (playback of mp3s) my ipod freezed in 5 minutes !
I've tried to flip the hold switch on and off again, and it doesn't solve the problem.

Flipping the hold switch makes no difference here either...

what WPS are you using?
this has happened to me when using a memory intensive WPS and playing a high bitrate mp3. a less intensive screen should do the trick.

I use the basic WPS of the rockbox firmware.
The files I used to do my test are mp3s 244 kbps.

I have the same trouble with my 30GB video ipod. It seems only sections of certain mp3s crash my rockbox. I've tried the same files with an ipod uisimulator and it crashed aswell. They're 192kbps non-VBR, if that helps. I'm also using a completely texted based WPS so I don't think it's a CPU issue.

My Ipod crashed many times with various songs. In my case, I don't think this a problem with particulars mp3s.

Try a different WPS. Ipodblue WPS fixed this problem for me.

The problem seems to be solved. I was using a rockbox build from january. I updated my rockbox with the latest daily build today. I've done the same test than the last time, and it didn't freeze. I hope it is not gonna happen again.
It works fine  even with an advanced WPS, I use the ubuntu one.
Rockbox is so great with a beautiful WPS and the database function.... thanks to developpers again !
I'm sorry that I've posted on the forum about my problem without having the latest rockbox build on my ipod, which was stupid.
