Anywhere you want. As long as you know where to find them when running the patch command to apply them.

I suggest you read the SimpleGuideToCompiling wiki page.

 Configuring Build

    * Create a new folder for the compiling by typing mkdir folder, where folder is the name of the folder (I tend to call it build). This folder should be inside the Rockbox source folder.
    * Enter that folder by typing cd folder, where folder is the name you chose for the folder
    * In that folder type ../tools/configure which will bring up a list of all possible devices

im at that step
1. i dont know where 2 make the folder
2. when i try it somewhere and i tr to do the command ../tools/configure    it say now possible command,

what do i need to do

Once again, I've merged the new thread you started into your existing thread.  Please do not start multiple threads on the same general topic.

I'm also moving this thread to the appropriate forum.

ok, so i have downloaded Cygwin and have followed all the step on the "SimpleGuideToCompiling" wiki page.

i got down to tis step
Configuring Build

    * Create a new folder for the compiling by typing mkdir folder, where folder is the name of the folder (I tend to call it build). This folder should be inside the Rockbox source folder.
    * Enter that folder by typing cd folder, where folder is the name you chose for the folder
    * In that folder type ../tools/configure which will bring up a list of all possible devices

1. I dont know where to make the folder.
2. When i tried it somwhere iand i got to the part where i put in the "../tools/configure it said: unable to find location or command
