Could ROCKBOX have killed my Nano?

This is exactly the same problem I have with my 1st gen nano 4gb.
Rockbox was running fine, i connected the ipod to the computer when i got home, i got the apple logo which froze. I then did a reset (select+menu) for 30 seconds. It shutdown and will not respond to anything.
I have tried the above numerous times. And yes, i am sure my fingers didn't wobble and i held the buttons down for well over 30 seconds.

As far as I can see the ipod is a brick. I repeat nothing responds, the computer doesn't recognize anything. I have tried different USB ports on 2 different machines. Nothing detects anything.

I noticed someone else had a similar problem which eventually went away. Perhaps the battery needs to be run dead flat to reset something in Ram or even Rom?

Please note, the nano is charged and I have tried resetting it both on AND off charge.
