mpeg conversion issue
« on: January 24, 2007, 11:50:46 PM »
Hi, i just installed rockbox on my gigabeat f40 a couple of days ago and i'm trying to get the videos to work. The sample "elephants dream" can play (though video and audio are off-sync). However, other mpegs don't show up in my file viewer. I tried using the VLC conversion .bat file found on this page: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/PluginMpegplayer#Menu_Options and it converts the mpeg fine. However, when uploaded the mpeg onto my gigabeat, it still doesn't show up. Help would be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean by "it still doesn't show up"?

You can't see it in the filetree, or you can't play it? Can you play it on the computer after conversion?

i can play it on the computer but on my gigabeat file viewer it isn't even there at all.

Modification: Also, one thing i noticed is that when i view the properties of the converted mpeg, the file name ends with ".mpeg.m2v" Could the m2v be causing the problem?

what do u mean by file view mode? i am simply in the file tree of the rockbox firmware that displays folders and files.

Modified: never mind, i'm in the show "Supported" files mode

Yes, but there are different File View modes, such as "Supported" "Music" and "All Files" and it sounds like you're not in one that shows .mpg files. They do have the extension .mpg right? Does elephant's dream show up right now?

elephants dream shows up and plays fine. after i changed the file view mode to "All" my mpeg shows up also, but instead of .mpg it shows up as .mpg.m2v
is m2v even supported by the mpegplayer? i used the vlc conversion file

You used the outdated .bat file. Perhaps nobody has been kind enough to upload a new one. The .m2v format is no longer supported. That was MPEG2-video with no sound. That is why they don't show up, you were in "Supported" mode, and they aren't.

vlc conversion file

the vlc mpeg conversion file (http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/pub/Main/PluginMpegplayer/VLC-transcode.bat) is outdated and converts only to .m2v which is no longer supported. Could someone please upload a new .bat file that converts to .mpeg instead? thanks.

Why not just use the VLC command line provided, or edit the .bat (you can open it up in notepad) and change the command line in it to the new one?

Also, do not post multiple posts asking the same question. We have a strict rule regarding that, I've deleted your duplicate post.

ok i tried editing the .bat in notepad. i changed the .m2v at the end of the code to .mpg and i changed the %width% and %height% to 320 and 240, respectively, which is the screen res for my gigabeat. Now when i upload  the converted mpeg, i can open it but all it does is take a few seconds to buffer and then exits back to the file tree. What am i doing wrong?
