Rockbox and itrip

skowser:
Does anyone know if a rockbox'd ipod will work with one of those FM transmitter thingys?

massiveH:
As far as I know, Rockbox does not work with any attachment for iPods, save external speaker systems, correct me if I'm wrong.

Chronon:
Short answer: No

Any device that communicates with the iPod using the Apple communication protocol will not work with Rockbox.  There is a slight caveat in the case of the iTrip.  For more you can track down Pies Julius's blog from his profile.  There's an entry there about this.

Also, there are other FM transmitters that just take a line-in and transmit that signal over FM.  Those devices should work fine.

i used an ipod dock like thing for a car...one that plugs into the cigarette lighter and has a built in fm transmitter, and that was it. it didn't feature any kind of remote control...i will tell you, that like external speakers, this worked just fine with rockbox. from what i can tell, the audio-out pins on the dock connector aren't sofware dependant, but rather they seem to be wired directly into the DAC (or somewhere similar) of the ipod, before the hardware EQ i believe.

so, to answer your question, as long as you don't want to use any kind of remote control features, the fm transmitters that interface into the dock connector work perfectly.
