Songs Gone
« on: January 23, 2007, 11:19:50 PM »
Greetings Rockboxers, as you can see, I'm a noob and just installed Rockbox on my 30 GB Video iPod

My question/problem is that I can't find any of my songs or videos.  Do I need to enable something to be able to view them? =(

Look up Tag Database in the manual, which can be found linked at the side of the screen.  There you will find your answer.  :)

This section here shows you how you can browse the music on your player: http://download.rockbox.org/manual/rockbox-ipodvideo/rockbox-buildch4.html#x7-350004.2
Sorry, its actually referred to as Database in the manual.  My bad.

I tried to Initialize it but I still don't see any of my songs.

Also, I uninstalled rockbox temporarily so I could listen to some tunes during class, and some of the songs I've recently added won't play, instead, it would shut off and restart the iPod. =(

Initializing the Database takes some time. Additionally, you need to reboot after initializing. But that's stated in the manual as well ...

After initializing, you need to reboot the player, then the database will be available.  Also, you can simply reboot your player into the apple firmware, so there is no need to uninstall Rockbox to access the original firmware.

Alright, I just reinstalled rockbox and got a custom theme, I am now Initializing again, how will I know when it will be done Initializing?

Okay nevermind, I got songs to show up, but a lot of them are showing up as [UNTAGGED].

And that's because...

...the tags are missing :P

Remember that iTunes stores tags in it's own database on the PC and doesn't necessarily write them to the actual files. In other words, iTunes can look good, but Rockbox will expose this shoddy approach to music management!

Despite that, I'm loving Rockbox and its community :)

My friend tells me that if I wanted to play videos, I can load the original interface without uninstalling Rockbox, how is this possible?
