Because I liked the idea of being able to play .mp3 files on my Toshiba Gigabeat F40, i thought I'd give Rockbox a try.
I like the idea of this open source firmware, but I don't really like the actual functioning of the player itself with this firmware. Sorry if this post is in the wrong place.
-I can't change the volume without actually being on the WPS page, with the up and down buttons or the actual volume buttons on the side of the player. That is kind of annoying.
-I really enjoy the sliding ability from right to left, right to left, up to down of that the gigabeat firmware has. The rockbox firmware usage of the power button and A button is weird and aggravating.
-When I view my pictures, it shrinks the picture, or it doesnt fill the whole screen unless u press the menu button, but that zooms and thus when u press the left and right buttons hoping to go to the next picture, it instead pans the picture. Also, there is no thumbnail view when browsing the pictures, so u can't select a pic unless u memorize the file name..
-Even with the themes added, it still looks kinda lame.. like a file explorer.
-There is no dimming of the backlight, just off completely, so i cant see wat is playing if the backlight goes off.
So I guess I can sacrifice being forced to use SAT encrypted files for the functionality, visual appeals, and familiarity with the original gigabeat firmware.
Maybe I'll come back to this open source when more features and customization are available.
