Need help with RockBox on H10 20GB
« on: January 20, 2007, 12:30:00 AM »
I need some help.  I followed the instruction manual thing on installing RockBox on my iRiver H10 20GB, but when I turn the player on (after everything is installed as per the instructions) all I see in the menu is Text and rockbox.  I had music on the player before I installed RockBox, but I'm not seeing anything that the instructions say I should be seeing.

What's wrong?

The Music folder is created by the original firmware from iRiver and is set as hidden. You can either set the folder's properties through your computer to un-hide it, set view mode in Rockbox to 'Show All' (see manual, 'Browsing and Playing' section), or use the Database to browse the media by id3 tags (again, see manual).

Now I can see the music :)

But, it won't let me play any of it.  Do I need to reload all of my music?  Not that there's that much of it, but I just want to know before I go and delete everything for no reason :)

Oh, that could be.  I'm not sure which songs are what format, but I do know that I have a smattering of WMA and MP3's on there.

One thing I noticed tonight as well as I was looking through the manual is that I don't have hardly any menu options.  I have....

Music
My RecordingsService
System
Text
rockbox

rockbox leads me to....

Playlist
Playlist Catalog
Rename
Cut
Copy
Delete
Open With...
Create Directory
Properties

Are these the only options I should have, or am I running a different version or something?  lol, this program is really confusing!

You're not entering the music folder, that is the context sensitive menu.
Does the manual have a list of what button does what? I know that I get that menu on a long-press of Navi on my H3X0 player, but I don't know the correct button to enter a folder on a h10.

Try pressing right on the music folder.

You are not in the menu, you are in the file browser, what you see is folders on your harddrive. The menu you get to is a context sensitive menu, called the file menu, it means you made a long press, on select. The "rockbox" thing you see below th folders is rockbox' main binary, you do not have to do anything with this file when your player has started.

please take a look in the manual and things should become clearer.

Hey, finally figured it out!  When I was fooling with it this morning, the backlight turned off after 5 seconds, like normal.  Then when I clicked a button, which just so happened to be the power button, to get the screen back, I was in a completely different menu than before lol.  So yeah, I'm rolling now! :D  Beat the first 3 levels of Doom already, haha.

Thanks guys!

Couple other things I'm wondering about though.  How can I get videos on there?  I can't find it in the manual (might have passed it though).  Also, I was reading somewhere else on the forums where someone was asking about Gameboy ROMs.  Can you put stuff like that on RockBox?

I know these are probably some really noobish questions, but I have no idea what I'm doing lol.  Thanks!
