Brightness patch Sync and SVN Command Problems
« on: January 19, 2007, 07:25:39 PM »
Referring to this tracker page:http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/5234

I need to use this patch for the new source update but unfortunately the new source does not support it. I'm thinking it requires a new sync? I'm a regular PC guy and i know nothing about programming.

I was wondering if syncing the patch myself would be a relatively easy task for beginners? If it is easy and recommended that i do it myself then what are the things that i need to do?

Also, only the backlight.c part did not work with the patch. The other parts of the patch patches nicely.

Thanks.

I would apply it to an older version of the file and then merge whatever changes were introduced into the new version back into the old.

If the changes in the file are unrelated to the patch, this will not be particularly difficult.  You could use any comparison tool (diff, etc) to figure out what changed, and then copy and paste the changes into the old, patched version.  If the change actually impacts the patch, then you'll need to understand the code well enough to update it.

Yeah I'm talking about actually patching the old version and then manually combining the two via copy and paste.  Theres no commands involved, aside from whatever you use to launch a text editor.  diff is a utility you can use to figure out what changed.  Type 'man diff' if you want to use it.

saratoga, thank you for your help. It's still not working. However i've decided to try using an older svn sourcecode, patch, and then work my way up again to the latest version.

However, this command did not work

svn svn://svn.rockbox.org/rockbox/trunk co -D YYYY-MM-DD rockbox

I got this command off the "UsingSVN" guide from the site.

EDIT: Changed the title because i have several other problems.

Sarotoga or anyone else who's capable of doing so, if you don't mind, can you please update the brightness patch so that it can be used with the new source code? I think i'm almost giving up, i've tried all sorts of ways but it just would not work. I guess only those who have a programming background would be able to do so.
