Ipod Nano 1st gen doesnt load rockbox anymore
(1/1)
thiagoleon:
Hello! I'd like to say first that rockbox is awesome, no comparison to the original firmware. I had a strange problem, though.
Here's the thing:
1) I first installed rockbox following the instructions, and everything went OK.
2) After I installed some themes, sometimes the rockbox crashed while listening to normal music.
3) So, I tried to install ipodlinux just to see how it was. It didn't accepted my ipod model (maybe because it had the rockbox firmware).
4) I restored the ipod firmware using the ipod patcher, and it worked well. However, ipodlinux still didn't work. Oh well, time to go back to rockbox.
5) I did the same procedures to install it again. Ipodpatcher scanning, reading and writing the rockbox firmware went OK. However, it only showed the dreadful "Use iTunes to Restore" message in many languages.
6) iTunes could restore everything normally, and the iPod firmware works. However, I can't install rockbox anymore. I tried older daily builds and even tried from other computer, but the problem persists.
That's the thing... the way it is, I don't think it's a hardware problem because it can be restored by iTunes and runs normally, and its not a RTFM either, because I could install earlier doing the exact same things...
Any ideas?
Llorean:
What *exactly* happens when you try to install Rockbox now?
thiagoleon:
After restoring the iPod with iTunes, I extract the current daily build into the iPod drive. Then my ipod has a rockbox.ipod and the.rockbox folder in the root.
using the command "ipodpatcher 1 -w bootloader-ipodnano.ipod" in the terminal works fine, no errors. The "1" value was obtained using the ipodpatcher --scan.
Then I unplug the ipod, and I can see that it is rebooting. I see the apple logo, and then the rockbox "use iTunes to restore" message.
In this stage, the ipodpatcher --scan no longer recognizes the ipod, and the iTunes says that the iPod should be restored.
I guess I said exactly everything... is there anything else?
Thanks.
Llorean:
Yes, you did the installation wrong.
Read the instructions, you do -a, NOT -w for the proper install.
thiagoleon:
/me stupid.
It worked now... I don't know why I was incorrectly using w though :(
Thanks! And sorry for the inconvenience.
