usb host on iaudio X5
« on: January 17, 2007, 02:17:11 PM »
hello,

I have an iaudio X5, on which I set up rockbox with a doubleboot firmare, plus some portable apps, and recently I add all my documents.

I want to use the usb host utility to copy files from usb keys (and cameras). So I boot on cowon's firmware, and by using the usb host utility I can transfer files from my iaudio to the usb key but not the opposite.

The problem is that on cowon's firmware the number of files is limited to 2999 and that I have near 6000 files : It says me "file DB Full".

I tried to hide some folders by adding a "." at the begining of the directory name but it doesn't work.

Please give me your ideas and/or the status of this utility under rockbox implemented on the iaudio X5 (when it could be available, with which files/folder limitations ?...)....

Thanks in advance

thanks a lot. Do you think it could have an interrest anyway ?

Any ideas to let it work on cowon's firmware ? or other solutions ? If partitioned, I think the second partition of the disk would not be recognized by the usb host functionality...

I think a lot of people are interested in it, however (I think!) that there is no information on how the chip in question implements the feature, so no one is quite sure what to do about adding support for it.

This will be quite a hard task for the X5 due to the lack of technical documentation for the USBOTG chip. The feature doesn't work for the other USBOTG target (H300) either but at least there, there's some documentation available.

What about the gigabeat? I think the USBOTG is built into the processor/chipset.

Thanks,

Do you think rockbox developpers could obtain technical information about the OTG chip from cowon ? Have they already tried and are they interrested in ?
Is cowon interrested in sharing these with rockbox, or the chip is just OEM and it's not possible for them to share these?

Finally, I really think that the X5 is excellent but I see that there is this problematic limitation in number of managed files by the cowon's firmware... :'(
I don't understand why that is so low, their firmware doesn't respond to the functionning of their product (rockbox greatly extends other functionalities but I mean that basic tasks as such as USB host-OTG which is not implemented in rockbox yet). Indeed, limitation of the number of files is specified but is not accord with the real number of files that can be managed by the disk...

PS : sorry if maybe my english is not always great, I'm french  ;)

It's unfortunately out of their hands. They would not be allowed to send us the documentation for the OTG chip, even if they wanted to.

It's a pity...

Do you know if they are considering an upgrade of this functionality on their firmware ??

Generally we have no contact with manufacturers, so unless they've said so on their web site, we wouldn't know.  I'd guess not though since the X5 has been out for a long time now and that issue has not been fixed.  At this point, they're probably working on the X6.

I read somewhere someone quoting a Cowon representative saying that they're no longer upgrading the firmware in the X5. I can't remember where though, and it wasn't exactly something I'd take as 100% reliable.
