Cool Idea---ipod with internet?

I was playing Doom 1 on my computer the other day, and I noticed that Doom had online play. I thought it would be sweet if rockdoom had online play, or if rockbox in general had online capabilities. I thought for a while, and this is what I came up with...
   There can be a plugin in Rockbox that searches for a connection. The connection could be supplied by a small wi-fi atenna that could be plugged into either the headphone jack or the big USB socket in the bottom (or plug in the USB Cable to your ipod, and find an attena with a USB  socket? By the way, if there is no such thing, you could try to custom-make it).
              Just think about the awesomeness with having an internet-connected ipod/iriver/ect.
Some of the more useless plugins like the text input or rockpaint can be sent to other people. rockdoom can have online play. Competitive high scores in the other games. rockbox could beat the Zune at it's own game by sending music!

It's a long shot that it'll ever happen, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. I wanted to get input from other Rockbox owners to see if it's at all possible

edit-Don't have a flyspray account. Can't put it in feature request yet. However, I want some input on my idea before I request it. If you like it, Great! I'll request it and start researching on how it can be done. if you don't like it or think it's dumb, don't be too brutal about it

The USB doesn't work yet, and nobody nows how long it will take to make it work...

That would be possible with the target that have USBOTG (H3xx, Gigabeat, X5) and get a usb wi-fi card. But first you would have to get the USBOTG working, which isn't going very well frm what I've seen.

It is in fact believed to be possible to do USBOTG with the portalplayer USB (used in ipods) but as was previously posted Rockbox doesn't have a driver for the USBhardware in these chips yet. But getting USBOTG to work would only be half the work as tou would need a tcp/ip stack and a driver for your network card etc. What I'm saying is that don't expec this will ever bee done and the value of posting a feature request is questionable.

I'm well aware at this point that it'll never happen. Just thought I'd mention my idea. I just wanted some extra opinions before I request it. I wont request it.

There is a thread lurking round here somewhere about multi-user games ... the suggestion was to use some kind of audio signalling (FSK maybe) to get data between systems - that would then be milti-platform ...

COme to think of it I think it was for tenis (just to prove the point) but once there is data moving between systems ...
