freezes after trying to initialize database

Sorry that i'm not smart enough to figure this out...um...so i just put Rockbox on my 5g ipod, and everything seemed to be working.  But then, i tried to initialize my database.  Then, about 5 seconds later, the ipod freezes.  I've tried multiple times, even reinstalling Rockbox and nothing has worked...please help   Thank you

When you say reinstalling, did you delete the old /.rockbox folder, or just overwrite the existing? If the latter, then try deleting it entirely before reinstalling (to be certain that no corrupt tagcache files are hanging around).

What version of Rockbox are you using that's causing this issue? Specifically, what daily build are you using? I had this exact problem with with 01/13/07 build on my iPod Color, but this was resolved by either using a build earlier than this date, or by using Mikeage's 'No Frequency Scaling' build.

and I've been having no problems with Senab's builds (see thread in Unsupported Builds). His latest is from 13th, and he's got previous versions available, too. Also Psiuyo's 5g build from 12/28 worked well.

I am having the same issue on my H340 iriver. For a few seconds the hard drive spins, and then, everything freezes and all hard drive activity stops. I have tried the 17th Jan build, 31 Dec 2006 build and the Noboru unsupported build, all freezing with the same issue.

I have around 2400 songs on the player.

lunchtable, Ruins: I know that the 01/12/07 build was working without issues for me on the iPod Color, so I suggest giving that build a shot, and see if it helps.

You've got me then... sometimes an iPod restore can help, but that's assuming you have all your music and files backed up. You may want to try an unsupported build and see if it results in better luck.

An old issue with the database i've seen on ipods on the forum is broken tags. And they cause rockbox to hickup and freeze. Or atleast they did, it's been fixed to my knowledge... But who knows.
Try to pin down it if you can; move halft your collection to the ipod and then initialize the database.. If it works move the other half aswell. If it doesn't work, half the half and keep on doing that.
