Help with my Ipod 60G Video

<< < (3/4) > >>

Yes, I always thought that this Ipod was a little quirky.  Most times it will only charge when I
have it plugged into a fire wire port.  These are not supposed to use firewire but its the only
way that it will chagre.  I put a new battery in it but that didn't help.  I left the firewire cable home
and the battery is low so I can't do anything until tomorow.  Thanx  for all your help.

It sounds like a build with the alternate USB behavior might help.  In the main builds the default behavior is for the player to reset into Disk Mode when USB connection is detected.  This resetting can be avoided by holding down Menu when connecting the USB cable.

There is a patch that switches the behavior so that the player doesn't reboot by default and one has to hold Menu when inserting the cable to get it to boot into Disk Mode.   Maybe this would be helpful in this situation.

Would this be a viable strategy?

I don't know you mean! Sorry.

standard behaviour is that plug into usb cable=ipod goes into disk mode, plug in while holding Menu keeps rockbox running and only charges (no disk mode)

the patch allows you to switch this so that plugging in only charges, and you need to hold Menu while p[lugging in to get it into disk mode.

d/l from here, and read about the patches he applies:
http://www.senab.co.uk/rockbox/

but if rockbox won't even boot properly, I don't know how this will help...

Chronon:
It sounds to me like Rockbox boots but immediately reboots into Disk Mode because for some reason the player thinks it's always connected to a USB host.  If that's the source of this behavior then it seems that this patch would circumvent the immediate reboot and allow Rockbox to stay running.  Just a thought. . .
