ipodpatcher does not see my ipod

I have already installed rockbox on my 5g 30gb video ipod without any problems.  Now i am installing it on my 4gb nano ipod and after i connect it i can see it in my computer and if i launch itunes i can see it there too, but when i type ipodpatcher --scan into my command prompt it says no ipod found..  I have it set so itunes does not load on startup.  I can see still my 5g 30gb video ipod when connected, what could be wrong?

I suspect that the second item will address your problem.  If that doesn't help solve your problem, please let us know the *exact* command lines you are typing to run the ipodpatcher program and what the result is for each command.

As i said before, the ipodpatcher is in the correct place because i have installed rockbox before, and it works fine and it can see my video ipod, just not my ipod nano, i have tried rebooting the nano but i still can't find the ipod through my command promt, what u told me to read i have read before, and it did not do anything.

Did you try putting the Nano into disk mode manually?

Again, it would be useful to us if you provide the command lines you are typing to run the ipodpatcher program.

Just to reidirate what i'v already said, i typed ipodpatcher --scan.  How do i connect the device manually?

As I suspected, it is a second generation Nano, and does not work with Rockbox.

Is this the newest generation of nano ipods out?  Is it just this color?

1st Gen Nano's are black or white plastic on the front, and have shiny silver backs.

2nd Gen Nano's are one colour all over, are made completely from metal, and don't work with Rockbox.

I have installed rockbox on my ipod before and everything work flaulessly, now i installed it on a new 1st gen nano and i followed the instructions exactly on the website and it wont load to the rockbox OS, it only goes to the apple OS.  Does anyone know what could be the problem of this?

EDIT: I am given no errors, it just boots right to the apple screen even when i hold menu and select.

If it boots directly to the Apple firmware without displaying a Rockbox screen first, you haven't loaded the bootloader.  Try following the instructions here and let me know if it solves your problem:

Why do you now claim that your Nano is a 1st gen Nano when you've already been told that it's a second generation?
