iriver h10 20GB issues?

<< < (3/4) > >>

Llorean:
The iriver forum also says install only. This post, or most of it, should never have been posted. It is mostly bug reports or feature requests that both do not belong in the forums and are duplicates anyway. If you'd like to trim it down to actual questions we can see about helping you.

Ok a no frills version:

1. Battery life seems to be really bad, around 3-4 hours. What settings can I change to lengthen my play time? Yes my WPS has images (22 to be excat) EQ is off and all the power saving settings seem to be real low. (HD spindown at 3s etc).

3. This one has to be my fault. The Database doesn't work all the time. I am wondering what settings would be best to keep this working? for example. I power on the device, wait for it to scan the hard drive (around 30 seconds-ish) it updates the database and then I browse/search for the artist I want. Then I Play their music. lets say an hour in I don't want to listen to that artest anymore, so I go back to the data base and try to search/browse but all I get is "Database no ready" I have tried various things to fix this but the only relibal way to fix it is to power off the device and start it up again. Even update now from the options screen wont get it working.

4. Now sort of a general question. As I understand it the 2nd CPU on this decive is not currently in use. Would useing this CPU increse or decreese battery life.

10. Thanks. Just wanted to say that. I work all day devoloping stuff and I realy don't like when no one tells me thanks. Rockbox seems to be a damn good peice of software My issues seem to be related to the fact that I am using a new build. And the build seems to be under heavey devolopment. The power management code seems to have been changed last night when I updated from svn so maybe the power issue I was asking about has gotten better. I sure how the DB has.

End no fluff version.

But seriously,  5. 6 and 7 are not feature requests the attepts to understand why they where not implimented.

5 is kind of a question that I know better then asking. i am not putting in a feature request for something I already know is in the works.  6. is a compliment. 7. Kind of a general idea but I wanted to know what the cumunity thought of it as a whole.  8 is a feature request of sorts. Perhaps I will register it properly.  9 is like 7, I wanted to know if there is a reason that it shouldn't be allowed, not so much requesting that it be. 7, 8 and 9 I will enter as feature requests.

Llorean:
As I said, MANY of the things you've said have already been registered as feature requests. That's why I mentioned duplicates.

Battery life is a known issue, which you'd get if you searched.

For the database, try telling us what settings you're using, and if possible exactly how to reproduce this problem.

The second CPU gives me personally about a 5% increase in battery life.

For the DB:

I am using
Load to Ram: On
Auto Update: On
Gather Runtime Data: On
Disk Spindown: 3s
Disk Poweroff: yes
Directory Cache: yes

coteyr:
almost forgot. To reporduce the error this is what I do: (no gaurentee it will reporoduce as it could be my settings)

1. power on unit
2. Wait for the Database to update if need be
3. Select some music from the DB and play it
4. Enjoy your music
5. Get sick of music
6. Try to use DB to pick new music to listen to
7. Get the error ("DataBase not ready")

On an odd side note: I some times see an error "No .rockbox directory Instliation incomplete" Then the device continues to operate properly (yes the directory is there)
