Help with an ipod mini 2g (4gb) installation
« on: January 14, 2007, 11:42:05 PM »
Hey everyone, first off im new to this as you could undoubtedly tell, so please dont shoot me if i posted this in the wrong forum or if the question has been answered already, because I did check and couldnt find it.

Anyways, i just installed rockbox to my 4gb ipod mini 2g, but the problem is when i turn it on, all i get is the apple logo then an error screen (a file with the apple support url under it) and it shuts off. I can get to the disk mode, but it just says OK to disconnect with the check mark and stays there until I shut it off. I'm running on Windows xp. What should I do?

Tell us *exactly* what you did and we might be able to help.

At the moment with the information you've given us, the only way to fix your iPod I can suggest is to get it restored in iTunes.

I just followed ths steps on the installation instructions found at
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodInstallation#Step_2_Install_the_bootloader

Oh, also, when I connect the ipod to the computer, and I run any part of the command prompt instructions, it recognizes the ipod as a drive but it says it doesnt have the apple copyright and stops.

If I did anything incorrectly I dont know what, but it seemed like it worked fine up until i got to the disk mode screen

Did you see the red text right below the heading of this wiki page? ;)

Edit: as for what you should do now... the "ok to disconnect" is the disk mode screen. While your Ipod is in this mode you should still be able to connect it to your PC and start over again (using the right instructions and maybe you have to restore it with itunes first as GodEater said).
